No new committee members were elected at yesterday’s Slinky Society EGM as only the Chairperson and BDO were the only committee members present.

The result leaves the roles of Vice Chair, Secretary, and PRO still up for grabs.

Announcements were made about their plans for the coming semester in lieu of the low attendance.

Slinky Society will have a stand for Clubs and Societies Refreshers on both campuses today and Wednesday.

While most of their active members are situated on the Glasnevin campus, Chairperson Lu Moreira has plans for a Slinky Race to take place on the St Pats campus next week.

You can also find them in Santry, on Tuesday the 27th for their version of “Slinky Traitors” which will take place from 1-3pm.

Bigger events are also in the works. Given the Chairperson’s experience as DCU’s unofficial “matchmaker”, Slinky Society is planning to host a Bachelor/Bachelorette auction. Bidding will start at €5, and the winning bidder according to Lu, “will have a date in time for Valentine’s Day”. Safeguarding will also be in place, meaning only DCU students can participate and all applications will be checked by the committee. This event is in aid of The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.

On the 19th of February, plans are in place for a Sober Ball. The committee explained, “dress code is formal but colourful, like a slinky!”. Tickets will be €30 and a raffle will be held, this will go to Cuan Mhuire, Ireland’s largest voluntary provider of Addiction Treatment Services and Residential Rehabilitation.
